Free Jazz Oral History Project

This project was founded by Cisco Bradley in 2016 and has since recorded approximately 500 oral history interviews with the practitioners of Black Creative Music, free jazz, and related art forms. Some of these interviews have been released in our podcast series and are available on Podbean and Spotify.

Global Music Mapping

The lab maps out mobilities and networks within the United States and worldwide. We are currently examining mobilities that contributed to the growth of American music in the twentieth century. We are also collaborating with the University of Geneva on global flows and networks of musicians.

Digitization

The lab also oversees the digitization of physical media related to American experimental music. Items include tapes, videos, photographs, posters, journals, and related material.
